Emeli Sandé shared her new single, “Sparrow” – an anthem of strength with a drumbeat and a gospel choir that complement the urgency of Sandé’s message.

Sitting alone, with no producers or collaborators, Sandé wrote “Sparrow,” bringing life to a striking first line that had been in her mind for years. “I got wind beneath my wings, I think this time I’m gonna make it to morning” begins “Sparrow.” The process, and the freedom that came with it, Sandé says, was spiritual. She felt it spark within her. The lyrics poignantly state her purpose: “It’s hard to find poetry in the world anymore, I miss the romance and I just want to breathe some love into humanity.”

“Sparrow” is the first new song from Sandé since her 2017 EP, Kingdom Coming, which included the singles “Starlight” and “Higher.” The four-time BRIT Award winner has sold more than six million adjusted albums worldwide and nearly 20 million adjusted singles, across all tracks. Her full-length debut, Our Version Of Events, was named as one of the best albums of 2012 by critics worldwide and certified Gold in the U.S. It broke the U.K. chart record for the most consecutive weeks inside the Top 10, beating the 50-year record previously held by The Beatles. The first single, “Next to Me,” sold more than seven million downloads worldwide, including 1.5 million in the U.S., where it is certified Platinum.
