FKA twigs premieres brand-new track “sad day” as anticipation mounts for the release of her second album MAGDALENE, available this Friday via Young Turks. “sad day” is the fourth single and follows the release of previous MAGDALENE tracks ‘cellophane’, ‘holy terrain (feat. Future)’ and ‘home with you’, and is another powerful example of FKA twigs’ unique, innovative production and songwriting skills.
MAGDALENE, the follow-up to FKA twigs’ Brit Award and Mercury Prize nominated 2014 debut LP1, is produced by FKA twigs and was recorded between London, New York, and Los Angeles over the past three years. The album has already garnered massive critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, with Pitchfork asserting “the experimental pop shape-shifter is mightier than ever,” The Sunday Times proclaiming MAGDALENE “a masterpiece,” and FKA twigs taking home ‘Best Alternative Act’ at the MTV EMA’s.
FKA twigs kicked off her North American MAGDALENE tour dates this past weekend in Vancouver. Originally launched with a run of sold-out shows in Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, London and Sydney in May, the MAGDALENE live experience weaves a tapestry of sound, performance, costume, pole dancing, Wushu, set design and lighting, and sees FKA twigs cementing herself as one of the most creative and experimental artists, performers, and directors of her generation. The run of dates will feature two nights each at Oakland’s Fox Theater and Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, as well as FKA twigs’ biggest headline show to date with a hometown show at London’s legendary O2 Academy Brixton on November 25th.
