During World War II, a young Jewish woman has an affair with a Nazi doctor, who spares her life. Fifty years later, her two adult sons are suffering the consequences of her choices. The eldest son (Josh Lucas) is an emotional cripple working at a scam modeling agency. The younger of the sons (Lukas Haas) is a genius, piano – playing hermit, who is dangerously co – dependent on his mother (Jacqueline Bisset).
The lives of this horribly damaged family begin to unravel when they are forced to face their own demons. The older son meets a charming young man (Adam Brody) and the youngest son decides to move away from his mother, while she is reunited with someone from her dark past.
Okay, so I love these dark and twisted movies, but Death in Love looks super dark and twisted. This is a good thing. It’s a movie that’s not afraid to cross boundaries and risk making its audience feel uncomfortable – and I love and respect that. If nothing else, it looks like it has some stellar acting from its incredibly talented leads. It’s nice to see Adam Brody in something like this, you know, dark and seedy. We like our “bad boys”, don’t we?
Sexually charged, and often times explicit, Death in Love is all about human connections; the ones we have…and the ones we want so desperately to make.
Death in Love releases July 17, 2009.
