Sigourney Weaver is unlikely to reprise her role as Lt. Ellen Ripley in the proposed Alien prequel. The prequel is set to take place before the events in the 1979 classic film Alien , when Ripley first came in contact with a brutal alien that bleeds acid and cocoons its victims alive.

In an interview with SciFiSquad, Weaver said she does not believe it possible for Ripley to appear in the prequel. “Well, I don’t think that Ripley could appear in an Alien prequel because she does not have access to the creature until the first Alien.”

She said she did not care too much for the idea of the Alien vs. Predator films, though she admits she did not actually view the films.

“I think it just seemed so economically motivated somehow,” she said, adding that she thought the first four Alien films with Ripley were quite good and she was content with that.

Weaver said she hoped the current film or films would tell the story about where the aliens came from, as she feels that would make for interesting story-telling.

Fox has recently stated that it would give the go ahead for an Alien prequel if Ridley Scott takes the helm and directs the film. Scott directed the 1979 Alien and has expressed interest in directing the prequel. Should Scott take to the director’s chair, fans might expect a terrific movie. However, should Scott refuse, then Fox might cancel the project altogether, leaving fans champing at the bit.
