Brand-name beatdown on the Wii!
So, E3 is done and finally we get to hear a release date for some of the biggest titles that we are all waiting on, Super Mario Galaxy. Long story short, it looks friggin’ phenomenal. And after the videos I’ve seen so far, money is already being stashed for the end of the year. Today though, I decided to give you the details on what we have so far for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

First off lets start out with the newcomers to the battle.

Pit (Kid Icarus) First Game: Kid Icarus (1987)

In Kid Icarus, Pit began as a young angel trapped in the underworld. He had been tasked by Palutena, the imprisoned Goddess of Light, to defeat Medusa, the Goddess of Darkness.

Wario First Game: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992)

Wario hails from Nintendo's highly successful WarioWare and Wario Land series and serves as an occasional antagonist to Mario.

Solid Snake First Game: Metal Gear (1987)

Solid Snake is the main protagonist of Konami's Metal Gear franchise. Snake is also the first third-party character to appear in a Super Smash Bros. game.

And of course there are you veteran fighters: Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Samus (regular and Zero Suit varieties), Zelda, Bowser, Donkey Kong and the loveable Yoshi just to name a few. The Japanese version has a host of others, and we’ll have to see how many of them make the cut in the North American release.

One of the biggest things I have been excited about is the compatibility of the Wii Remote. Controls are simple on this game so they were able to configure the title for multiple control modes. Choose to brawl using either the Wii Remote (turned on its side), the Wii Remote with a Nunchuk, the Classic Controller, or the Gamecube Controller.

There’s no need to be confused about what does what—just choose the play style you prefer! I suppose I would recommend the Nintendo GameCube controller, though, since I like the feel of that powerful rumble. Still, try out the other controls—they definitely give you a fresh experience. Hmm? How do you do smashes and dashes with just the Wii Remote? If I get the chance to tell you, I will.

So far, nine levels have been announced for SSBB. You have the Classic Battlefield, Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine, the multi-platformed Yoshi’s Island, the Lylat Cruise for the Star Fox fans, the Bridge of Eldin from Twilight Princess, Rumble Falls from Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Smashville, which is clearly based on the world of Animal Crossing, Skyworld for the Kid Icarus in you, and Castle Siege as a homage to the Fire Emblem series.

And, what Super Smash Bros. Title would be complete without happy-fun-time items? Take a sneak peek at Nintendo’s latest bag of tricks.

Gooey Bomb: The Gooey Bomb is a bomb that adheres to most things. It's high-powred explosive encased in delicious ooze.

Cracker Launcher: After you grab this item, it’ll rapidly release blast after blast of firecrackers with gaudy explosions.

Crates and Barrels: When broken, many items tumble out of crates and barrels.

Banana Peel: When a banana peel gets dropped, everybody pretty much knows what’s going to happen next.

Bumper: What?! Is this... Could it be?! It’s the Bumper from the Nintendo 64 version of Super Smash Bros.! Back again after a whole nine years... Well, I’ll be.

Pitfall: This item appeared in the game Animal Crossing. Bury it in the ground and it becomes a trap. If you love playing tricks on others, this item can’t be beat.

Smoke Ball: This is an item that has absolutely no effect on characters...but it’s pretty fun.

Still no word on whether or not Wi-Fi will be integrated into the game but HOPEFULLY they can decide to integrate it in time. So far that’s about all we have learned for the game. But finally it is time to put those reserve tickets down and count the days. That’s right; December 03, 2007 is the day gaming will change forever. If you don’t own a Wii then you better get to saving, ‘cause all your friends are going to be playing it without you.
