Get some respect..
Volition Inc. and publisher THQ have once again joined forces to bring gamers the next installment of strategic gang-related violence in Saints Row 2. More than two years after their release of the highly successful Saints Row, the two gaming industry syndicates are putting the final touches on the anticipated sequel, which hits stores on October 14th. Although Saints Row 2 will leave gamers roaming the streets of a familiar city, several new additions will keep new recruits to the “3rd Street Saints” roaming the streets of Stilwater. Developers and publishers alike are hoping that Saints Row 2 can match, and even surpass, the success of the original.

To bolster that success, developers have included several additions and new features, ranging from better character customization to new side missions. With these additions, both familiar and new gamers of the franchise will find a surplus of vehicles, weapons, and missions at their disposal. The 3rd Street Saints are hitting the streets again, and this time they have faster rides and better firepower.

Nearly everything in Stilwater has been upgraded for the sequel, starting with overall graphics and AI features. The lighting and texture of the city has been reworked, giving every alley and street corner a truly realistic feel. Character customization has been given an upgrade, including the types of weapons you’ll carry as you roam the city streets. Players can change their players voice, walk, taunts, fighting style, clothing, and other features, giving each character a unique feel. They can also chose to play as a female character, allowing for even more unique character creations. These player-created characters will interact with more realistic AI in a newly revamped city.

Other additions involve how players will move around the city. Vehicles have been given an upgrade as well, providing better physics and a realistic driving experience. The types of vehicles will now include water craft, including boats and jet skis. Players can check out new motorcycles or quad bikes, or fly around in the newly added helicopters and planes. These vehicles will dramatically change how players move through the city and complete various missions.

The introduction of Co-op for the campaign will also add an interesting twist for Saints Row 2 players. Players will be able to complete various portions of the campaign with a partner, adding to the overall game play experience. This will be in addition to the online multiplayer option, which will also be available for the sequel. Players will be able to go online and battle on the streets of Stilwater against other gang members.

Following the success of the original, Saints Row 2 is hoping to provide a new kind of game play for gamers interested in trying out a newly refurbished city, with a variety of new features. With the potential for another success in Saints Row 2, Volition Inc. and THQ hope to continue their award-winning series. We’ll see how well the franchise will do when gamers get their chance to join the 3rd Street Saints on October 14th, when Saints Row 2 hits stores.
