Special editions are pretty much standard nowadays and it’s also pretty standard for the “special” editions to be anything but special. Metal cases may look pretty but they get damaged easily and don’t even fit in regular game racks. Not worth an extra $20.
But some are fun. Like NBA2K’s 10th Anniversary Edition.
This special edition comes with a locker than can hold 20 games, a DVD about NBA 2K, a Kobe Bryant figure, and a Kobe Bryant poster. But most interesting is access to the Gold Room, which is a VIP online lobby where you can potentially play a game against a celebrity. The Gold Room is limited to the 30,000 gamers who purchase the Anniversary Edition of the game.
This is how all special editions should be done. Except for the price.
At MSRP of $99.99, it is pretty steep but like any other game, if you’re a big enough fan then you’ll buy the special edition.
