Five Blockbusters of Summer ’19: Aladdin, The Lion King, and More

There’s plenty of movie theater goodness to look forward to this summer, and among these films are some classic explorations, including Aladdin, Toy Story 4, and The Lion King. Aladdin — in theaters May 24 Disney is at it again with another live-action retelling, and this time the popular animated feature is directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch, King Arther: Legend of the Sword). Catch Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and David Negahban as the Sultan.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 — in theaters June 7 This sequel is sure to entertain after the huge success of Illumination’s original portrait of pets and their hidden antics. Harrison Ford voices his first animated movie, along with voices from Patton Oswalt, Eric Stonestreet, and Lake Bell.
Toy Story 4 — in theaters June 21 Pixar and Disney are soon to unleash yet another refreshing sequel to the Toy Story series, nearly a decade after its third continuation. Josh Cooley will direct, while Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return to voice Woody and Buzz. You can surely expect some new owner(s) and adventures.
The Lion King — in theaters July 19 Disney’s perhaps most celebrated animation will return to the screen with a sort of live-action retelling. Director Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book) will return to govern the screen here. James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa, alongside a wide-ranging cast that includes Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Beyonce, and John Oliver.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — in theaters August 9 It’s not animated or backed by Disney but Quentin Tarantino’s latest project is certain to fill some seats and wallets. The film will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in a 1969 Hollywood story about two men trying to make a name for themselves against the backdrop of the Charles Manson murders. Margot Robbie will star as the tragic Sharon Tate, the Manson family’s pregnant movie star victim.
