‘Dark Knight Rises’ Box Office Sales on the Decline
Despite the horrific shooting in Aurora, Colorado, last weekend at the midnight premiere, The Dark Knight Rises opened with a solid earning of $160.9 million.
However, this weekend the numbers made a pretty drastic decline. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Dark Knight Rises is expected to earn about $60 million this weekend. Granted, this is still an impressive number, but it’s $16 million less than the second weekend of The Dark Knight earned.
This could boil down to a few factors. One being the country is still reeling from the Aurora shooting. I’ll admit… when I saw The Dark Knight Rises this past week I felt a little uneasy thinking about the victims of Aurora and their families. Another reason could be the 2012 Olympics started this weekend in London, and families could be staying home to watch their favorite athletes compete.
The Dark Knight Rises isn’t the only film to be hit hard by the box office this week. The Watch starring Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn has only brought in about $4.5 million in ticket sales. It even fell behind the dance phenomenon film Step Up Revolution which has earned $4.9 million so far.
Official box office numbers will be in tomorrow. Have you stayed home this weekend and away from the theater?
