Direct-To-DVD ‘Twilight’ Prequel In The Works

Yes, you read that right. A project that has direct correlation to Twilight is going straight to DVD. Summit Entertainment released this weekend that they will be making a direct-to-DVD Twilight prequel that follows the young Carlisle Cullen before he begins his life as a vampire in the books by Stephenie Meyer.

Carlisle, who is played by Peter Facinelli in the franchise, doesn’t usually play a major role in the films like he does in the books. The new prequel will be released between Breaking Dawn pt. 1 and Breaking Dawn pt. 2 so the restless fans have something to sink their teeth in to (no pun intended). It will follow Carlisle’s life before he turns Edward into a vampire and before Bella is even born, as he travels the world with his new vampiric powers and decides to go to medical school.

Facinelli has turned down the opportunity to play a younger version of his character, so the role will go to Luke Mably (The Prince and Me). Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will also not be in the film, but the role of a young Edward Cullen appear just before Carlisle turns him.

As for the creator of the Twilight phenomenon, Stephenie Meyer isn’t too thrilled about this idea. She posted on her website, “Carlisle is darkly mysterious for a reason. Plus, who the heck is this guy from The Prince and Me?”

What do you think Twilight fans? Are you excited for the prequel regardless?
