Hip hop can be strange. When you least expect it, a record company signs a hot new artist and they blow up and conquer the world with their music. And other times, they sign an artist where the general hip hop asks themselves whether they’re hearing the news correctly.
Cash Money records have recently done the later. Lil Wayne’s record company has signed Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit fame) to their record label. I’ll give you a second to let that sink in. Fred Durst, from Limp Bizkit, the same Fred Durst who wrote 1990s megahits such as “Break Stuff”, and “Nookie” has been signed to Cash Money Records.
Birdman, co-founder of Cash Money Records was quoted as saying for the deal, “The Cash Money Records and YMCMB family continues to grow and work in various music genres as shown by the addition of Limp Bizkit. We have always admired how they have been able to blend rock and Hip-Hop and will bring a unique sound to the label.”
It’s an interesting move, and we will see what happens to Durst on the label. Presently, Cash Money boasts other big name artists on their label such as Lil Wayne, Birdman, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled, Drake, Tyga, Busta Rhymes, Limp Bizkit, Cool & Dre, Jay Sean, Kevin Rudloff, Mack Maine, and Mystikal. You never know, maybe Durst has more to show to the world with his signature genre blend of rock-rap that was popular in the 1990s.
