JD Webb is the first artist off the new music label Infinite Music Group. His debut album, The Introduction is due out May 5, 2009. His debut single, “Big For Me,” came out February of this year. Rolling Stone and CCM Magazine have distinguished him as a “prolific songwriter.”

JD Webb’s big break onto the music scene was becoming a singer songwriter for the soap opera Days Of Our Lives. Coming from a family of singers, it’s no question JD Webb would also follow in their footsteps. With his unique eclectic style, JD Webb manages to create a distinguished sound for himself mixing R&B, Funk and Pop. He shows his romantic side on his piano heartfelt ballads.

Hard at work, JD Webb took time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions for us. He talks about his new album, what inspires him, and other music related topics. Make sure to check JD Webb out on his website Official JD Webb Website and on his Myspace page - JD Webb MySpace. The Introduction is due out May 5th 2009.

How did you land the role of being a songwriter for Days of Our Lives?

The show was looking to bring in some songwriters. We met with the music director for lunch, he gave me some tracks and the rest is history!

How would you say it has helped your career?

Days Of Our Lives is part of the fiber of daytime television. To be associated with the show is such an honor.

I see you are also a Producer. Any names we might recognize?

I've been so busy writing and producing my own music that I really haven't had the time to work with other artists recently. Some of the guys that are on my project have played for Prince, Raphael Saadiq, Musiq Soulchild, Joss Stone, Jennifer Hudson. How much time do you have?! lol

You have a debut album coming out soon. How would you describe it?

I'd say The Introduction is pretty eclectic. It's R&B with some Soul, Funk, Jazz and Pop interspersed. I'm a hopeless romantic and my goal was to really bring romance back into music. I think that guys have forgotten how to romance a lady and girls somehow feel like they shouldn't expect it. Hopefully The Introduction will make you smile, dance and think. And make you want to fall in love or fall in love all over again.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a singer?

I can't remember anything else. I did my first concert at 3 years old. I come from a family of singers. My mom and her sisters had a group. Some of my favorite memories are hopping on a tour bus with them and going from church to church. It's in my blood, it's what you do in my family. I'm so blessed to have that kind of a heritage.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

I love Prince, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Michael McDonald, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Babyface, Boyz II Men.

What inspires you as a songwriter?

I'm honestly inspired by everything- my surroundings, friends, family, people watching. I love to sit on a bench and watch people, and think about their stories. That inspires a lot of creativity in me.

Is there any particular song on your album means the most to you?

I would say “Falls Apart” strikes a particular chord with me. It's about seeing something that you love slip away, and feeling helpless to do anything about it. The passion behind that song really speaks to me.

What's in your Ipod these days?

It's always a mix. Some staples are Jazz favorites like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Miles, Coltraine. Current music, Jazmine Sullivan, James Morrison, Nikka Costa, Anthony Hamilton, India Arie.

What advice would you give to aspiring singer songwriters?

Sing anywhere you can and write all the time. Know that this is the hardest business there is. If you can see yourself doing anything else, do it. But if music is what you eat, breathe and sleep, then give it everything you've got. Don't let anything stop you. And remember, the music business is at the end of the day, a business.
