Kurupt Recruits Over 50 Rappers On New Academy Project

We have some HUGE Kurupt news today! A tracklist from his new project entitled The Academy was released recently. However, before we get into that I need to man up, admit my mistakes, and make a little correction. In the last article that we published about The Academy project, I was a little confused. I was under the impression that The Academy was a rap group that Kurupt had formed with a few other rappers. This is not the case. The Academy is the name of the new Kurupt-lead project which has just been announced to feature over fifty different emcees.

Our last article on The Academy album detailed the release of the first single entitled “Samaryda” which featured Raekwon, Kojo, as well as Kurupt himself. Now, for all you hip-hop amateurs out there, you might be wondering with all the rappers on the album, what makes this a Kurupt-specific project? The fact of the matter is that the west-coast emcee is behind more than the majority of collaboration on The Academy. It was Kurupt, who got this idea off the ground, put some wheels on it, and brought it to us.

If you’ve ever heard a Kurupt album before, make no mistake that this’ll sound somewhat familiar and comfortable. However, with all the emcees on this album that can claim this as their first time working with Tha Kingpin, new west-coast classics are inevitably going to be born.

This undeniable potential is only recognized further when studying the tracklist. Just check it out! The compilation album features all new material from a number of well-respected rappers, including Pete Rock, M.O.P., Keith Murray, Raekwon, Method Man, Redman, Royce da 5’9, Styles P., Jadakiss, Sean Price and numerous others.

Over fifty emcees are featured on the project in total, with artists being grouped into six different categories including “Major,” “Independent,” “New & Old School,” “Legendary” and “Soon to Be.”
All production on The Academy is handled by Marlon Price and JP Beats.

The Academy is due in stores on September 13th, 2011 via Terminal 3/Penagon/Bonzi Records.
