Rap Legends “Die Hard”

It looks as if the long awaited/anticipated Detox album from rap legend and pioneer, Dr. Dre, might finally be released to us soon. Detox is the upcoming third album release of the AK-wielding physician, and is set for a release date of late 2011, a release date which has already been pushed back years starting in 2004. The explanation behind the delays came when Dre said he wanted to focus more on producing for the Aftermath Entertainment record label artists that were trying to get established instead of focusing on his own career, making chess moves instead of checkers.

However, in recent months it seems that the project has gained more momentum then in past years spent waiting for this album to come out. Dre has been a prominent force on the mixtape front lately and more and more supposed “official” tracks are leaking out onto the internet. However, whether or not these internet leaks will make the final cut of the album is still left undecided; they most likely will not considering the anticipation and hype surrounding this project means that security is a top priority.

Regardless of whether or not these songs make the finished product is irrelevant because Dr. Dre has already released some genuinely official singles to the public. On November 16, 2010 a track entitled “Kush” featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon was forcibly released when it too found its way on the internet. Dre stated, “It [“Kush”] got leaked, it was a version of it that got leaked that I wasn’t really happy about, so we are gonna go in push it and put it out because everyone seems to like it. Y’know I just thought, like, the content it’s about weed smoking and I don’t want people to think that’s what my album is about, this is actually the only song with that type of content in it.” So although Dre was not necessarily ready for this track to meet the fans he released it anyways because of the overwhelmingly positive reception that it got.

Then on February 1, 2011 Dre released the next single available for purchase entitled “I Need A Doctor” featuring his long time collaborator and friend, Eminem, as well as singer, Skylar Grey. The song went on to peak at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 an achievement the doctor hasn’t seen in over 18 years as a leading artist.

Then on May 6, 2011 the next song off the album premiered to thirsty patients. The song is entitled “Die Hard” and features Eminem once again. The track was released on the cable channel Showtime’s Fight Camp 360: Pacquiao vs. Mosley and is most certainly the best of his new releases thus far although Dre says it will not be the next single off Detox. This is the kind of song that the fans have been waiting for (me included) and this, along with the other singles already released, proves that Detox is finally on its way and not just a mere rumor or dream anymore. There is no official release date as of yet but the wait will definitely be worth it.
