First Serve – The Goon Mixtape
“First Serve” is many things, but at its heart, it is the story of two young boys from Queens, New York with big dreams and larger rhymes. Two friends, Deen Whitter (aka Plug 2 / Dave) and Jacob “Pop Life” Barrow (aka Plug 1/ Pos), friends from seventh grade, are by their own admission, “different, but the differences seem to complement everything we do.” Their name “First Serve” comes from their motto, “First come, First Serve, get what you deserve.”
Due to hit the streets in April 2012, the “First Serve” album tells the story of two dreamers in a basement struggling to start their musical career, the battles they face, all the way through to the point that they eventually release their debut single, “make it big”, their hard work and persistence finally paying off. As we know that is rarely where the story ends, and the story of “First Serve” is no different. Taking place in an animated world that could have been imagined by Hawley Pratt on Magic Mushrooms, the high-spirited and often hilarious journey is pure old school hip-hop; skits, disco, beats, funk, quips, burns and hustlin’ all included.

Carbin Dibiasi – “Addiction”
Carbin Dibiasi has been rapping for over seven years now and as a result of his creative mind, love for the art form, and militant lyrical exercise, he has become a well-rounded hip-hop artist. A talented songwriter and an experienced production connoisseur, Carbin is grinding to become one of hip-hop’s heavy weights. With the release of his debut EP, The Gold Standard, exclusively produced by Sacramento’s very own Resinate, Carbin proved that he has boundless potential and the chops to hang with the big dogs.
After making noise with his debut EP, The Gold Standard, the young and rising Sacramento, CA spitter Carbin Dibiasi is back with a new leak, “Addiction,” which is taken from a still yet to be titled project.

Aspektz – “Swivel”
The official red cup party anthem has arrived! A recent XXL Magazine “The Break” recipient and after heating up the U.S. College charts and peaking at #4, Aspektz put together a crazy celebration bash and filmed a video that includes firework fights, insane party footage, an indoor concert, plus a few other hidden surprises. The True Thorobredz are excited to announce the “Swivel” music video as a first of its kind through the AP360 campaign. With a never before seen visual effect, created by a 360-degree lens, the “Swivel” music video takes you inside the celebrations as Aspektz and the crew get their “Swivel” on in a 7-million dollar cottage.
The AP360 campaign is the first ever interactive series of music videos. Fans have the opportunity to click the videos as they play and swivel the camera in 360-degrees to decide which viewing angle they would like to watch the video from, creating a completely new music video experience every single time. Aspektz will be unleashing 360-degree viral videos as selected by the fans via Twitter and Aspektz’ Facebook fan page.
Aspektz is also gearing up for the “Frost” tour later this month.

Static Multimedia Exclusive – Planet Asia Interview
Planet Asia helped jump-start the West Coast independent hip-hop movement, releasing a slew of popular 12-inch singles on upstarts like Stones Throw and ABB Records in the late 90s that established him as one of the leaders of a crop of talent that included the likes of Dilated Peoples, Madlib, Murs, and Jurassic 5. Now a 15-year veteran, the Cali-based MC (born in Fresno, he’s spent most of his career living in Los Angeles and San Francisco) shows no signs of slowing down. The first decade of the new millennium saw Asia briefly sign with major label Interscope, go independent again for his debut album The Grand Opening, release full-length collaborative projects with both Evidence of Dilated Peoples (The Medicine) and DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill (Pain Language), form his own label (Gold Chain Music), and work with everyone from Linkin Park to Bun B to Ghostface Killah. Now, Planet Asia is back with his first retail album in four years, the star-studded Black Belt Theatre, which hits stores everywhere via Gold Chain/Wandering Worx/Greenstreets on February 28th, 2012.
Check out the exclusive interview below in which I and Planet Asia talk about his new album Black Belt Theatre and other upcoming projects. Leave your comments and let us know what you think and make sure to go out and buy Black Belt Theatre on February 28th, 2012.
