What are your doing the last weekend of June? If your plans are still up in the air, consider taking a look at the Solid Sound music and arts festival. The three-day event will bring close to 7,000 people from near and far to enjoy a wide variety of live music, entertainment and activities on the beautiful pastoral grounds of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCa) in North Adams.
The festival, created by the alternative rock band Wilco in 2010, now comes to the city every other summer — and with its success, it’s the name of a recently released documentary that follows the group during the 2013 festival. Check out the trailer below.
This year, four stages will cover 25 live music performances including, of course, Wilco, along with Tweedy (Jeff Tweedy’s collaborative project with his son Spencer), Mac DeMarco, Real Estate, Shabazz Palaces, Parquet Courts, Cibo Matto, The Felice Brothers, Jessica Pratt, Richard Thompson Trio, William Tyler, Ryley Walker, among many others.
Throughout the weekend, festival attendees are also presented with an abundance of diverse and eclectic non-musical programming. Full lineups of comedy and film presentations, gallery exhibits and a museum filled with world-class contemporary art. Roving Circus performers will be on the grounds hula hooping, tumbling and juggling as well as organized hikes, nature walks, drum making sessions…it seems that the things to do are endless!
In collaboration with local and national businesses, the Solid Sound festival offers unforgettable experiences for people of all ages. Whether you’re with family, friends, co-workers or colleagues, there’s something for everyone!
