This week’s picks are a mix of some of the best books coming out this summer.

This week’s top pick is another interesting anthology of some of this year’s best fantasy and sci-fi short stories. After the yearlong unearthing of Dr. Lambshead’s cabinet, Ann and Jeff VanderMeer bring you this steampunk anthology, the loose sequel to their The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric & Discredited Diseases. The Thackery T. Lambshead Cabinet of Curiosities contains a collection of stories, pictures, and other curiosities by a multitude of the best fantasy authors and artists such as Lev Grossman, Ted Chiang, Garth Nix, and Carrie Vaughn.  Tied together by an outside narrative created by editors Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, The Cabinet of Curiosities is a delightful collection for the fantasy-lover and the curious.

Ann and Jeff VanderMeer are both well-known editors in the field of science fiction and fantasy. Jeff himself has written several novels, including the bestselling Ambergris Cycle. The Cabinet of Curiosities will be released July 12 from HarperVoyager.

Other great reads coming out this week come from various genres.  Told through the voices of two Sports Illustrated writers, The Swinger is a hilarious novel by Michael Bamberger and Alan Shipnuck, following the rise and fall of golfer Herbert X. “Tree” Tremont.  The Swinger will be released July 12 from Simon & Schuster.

In her highly anticipated memoir, A Stolen Life, Jaycee Lee Dugard tells the story of her kidnapping and eighteen year imprisonment that shocked America.  A Stolen Life will be released on July 12 from Simon & Schuster.

One of the most anticipated fantasy reads of the summer, A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin chronicles the next chapter in the bestselling A Song of Fire and Ice series. A Dance with Dragons will be released July 12 from Random House.

In the novel, Then Came You, Jennifer Weiner place four women—all struggling to gain money, happiness or both—in a unique, interconnected friendship where each helps another to make her dreams come true.  Funny and unforgettable, Then Came You is a light summer read, releasing on July 12 from Atria Books.
