Dark Horse Presents #7: Hellboy in Mexico?

Five days ago, Dark Horse announced that the 2012 Dark Horse Presents#7 will include a Hellboy story! This must be what Mike Mignola meant by Hellboy being more interesting dead. Readers will want to devour any story pre-death in order to get their Big Red fix. Hellboy officially died in Mike Mignola’s Hellboy: The Fury #3 which was released August 10, 2011. Hellboy’s death (and the rumors of his death) caused quite a stir on the internet. Most readers enjoyed the final issue and even agree that Dark Horse knows how to kill off characters. Perhaps this short interlude in Hellboy’s past will capture more reader’s attention than if he had not died?

Mike Mignola and the well respected comic book illustrator Richard Corben (Shazam Award winner) will be the creative team handling the eight page short story. This time, Hellboy will be tromping around Mexico in his younger years. In 1956, he finds himself looking into a series of mass murders. There’s plenty to love in this short story, even if you are not a hard core Hellboy fan. Be prepared to find a Luchador, a Mexican bat-god, and of course no south of the border story would be complete without an Aztec mummy.

Mike Mignola has this to say about the story, “Back in 1956 Hellboy spent several months stumbling drunkenly through Mexico and this is just one of the odd things that may or may not have happened to him during that time. He claims to have no memory of this particular incident but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.” There is no word about what other stories or creative teams will appear in Dark Horse Presents #7.

Dark Horse Presents #7 will be available for purchase in January of 2012.
