IDW Announces “Memorial” Series
IDW Publishing has announced that iZombie writer Chris Roberson will be teaming up with artist Rich Ellis to create a new comic titled Memorial. Roberson describes the new comic as “a kind of cross between Doctor Who and Sandman by way of Miyazaki. A comic about memory and magic, mythology and mystery.” Considering the characteristics often found in Doctor Who, Sandman and in Hayao Miyazaki’s works, this new series promises good action, solid art, and an enjoyable quirkyness.
The story chronicles a young woman named Em, who loses her memory and shows up at a hospital in Portland, Oregon. One year later, she has everything rebuilt again: new friends and a new job. Then she is thrown off course after she inherits a magic shop, which seems to appear and disappear on a whim. She is dragged into a supernatural disagreement consisting of immortals which are symbols for characteristics of the universe. She only has the magic shop, herself and a talking cat to aid her.
Roberson also has worked on a range of Fables Cinderella series from Vertigo. He has also been nominated for two 2011 Eisner Awards: Best New Series (iZombie) and Best Limited Series (Cinderella: from Fabletown with Love). Roberson will be present at San Diego Comic Con. He will also participate in the IDW Panel on Thursday from 3:00PM to 4:00 PM in Room 9. It has been hinted that there will be a thrilling announcement as well. Roberson will also be found in booth #2643 for signings between 1PM and 2PM.
This new issue called Memorial #1 will be available in February of 2012. It will be 32 pages long, in full color, and will cost the interested buyer $3.99.
