Screenwriter William Goldman and sports writer Mike Lupica are combining forces for the first time, on a young adult novel.
The Philomel Books tome will center on a boy who discovers a secret power within himself when family tensions pushes it to the surface.
The untitled novel is set for publication in 2010. A representative for Penguin imprint Philomel said the collaboration "will have all the hallmarks of (Goldman's) magic realism and (Lupica's) heartwarming tales of the underdog."
In addition to his New York Daily News sportswriting, Lupica has written several young adult bestsellers. Goldman's novel "The Princess Bride," which he adapted for the screen, has sold 3 million copies.
