Robert Jordan’s popular 11-volume fantasy series, Wheel of Time, has plans in the works to be made into a comic series through a team-up of Dabel Brothers Publishing and Del Rey Books. Dabel Brothers is expected to start publishing them as serial comics in December of 2008 while Del Rey will collect the periodicals into book format graphic novels for release in late 2009.
The project has been planned since March of 2005 when Dabel Brothers Publishing representatives met with Robert Jordan to discuss preliminary notes. Brandon Sanderson, Jordan’s successor, is completing the final book of the series since Jordan’s death in 2007, and the book is due for publication in 2009.
Representatives of both publication groups are optimistic about the comic project. The team has already made plans in late 2007 to begin similar projects with other authors, such as Dean Koontz, Jim Butcher, and George R. R. Martin. Those projects are set to begin appearing for the public this coming fall of 2008.
