Open Mike Eagle & MF Doom share new video from The New Negroes

Open Mike Eagle shares a new video taken from his Comedy Central show with co-creator Baron Vaughn. “Police Myself,” featuring MF Doom, chronicles a day in the life of Eagle and the police alter-ego living in his head. Guiding him through nobs and switches, the police attempts to steer him out of trouble caused by racial profiling, until he escapes Eagle’s head and wreaks havoc on his own. The video is the second from Mike’s new Comedy Central show, The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle, following “Unfiltered” with Danny Brown and is set to close out the second episode airing Friday April 26th at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and BET simulcast.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the video, Eagle says, “The theme of the episode is criminality and we made a song and video outlining the idea of ‘double consciousness’ where one has to be aware of their own internal experience but also aware of how others perceive them. For black Americans and other marginalized people around the world that perception can be the difference between life and death.”

The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle is a socially aware stand-up and music series showcasing a collection of new and established comedians and musicians. Each episode will include an original music video, with the show’s forthcoming musical talent set to include Method Man, Lizzo, Father and more. According to Vaughn and Eagle, the pair took inspiration for the series and title from the term “New Negro,” as popularized during the Harlem Renaissance, referring to Black Americans speaking up, telling their own stories, and affirming their various identities to dismantle outdated assumptions and beliefs.
