Sony Says PSN Back Online by Next Week

PlayStation Network 2

Sony has posted on their blog detailing their plans for returning functionality to the PlayStation Network service. Patrick Seybold, the Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media, starts off thanking the community for our patience and that Sony regrets the inconveniences the outage may have caused. He explains:

Our employees have been working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure.

A few things addressed in the blog include security. Sony says that they are working both with law enforcement and a “recognized technology security firm” on the matter for a full investigation. They also say that while there is no evidence that users’ credit card information was taken, they don’t want to rule out the possibility.

Sony has outlined the steps they have taken to protect the privacy of users and have also provided steps for users to take. As said earlier, they plan on having some services up by next week so until then sit tight and check out the blog here for more updates.
