When Oh, a rather misfit alien, finds himself on Earth, he begins an unusual relationship with a little girl named Tip. On the run from his own people, Oh learns Tip is on her own kind of adventure. As they change each others world forever, Oh finds out that being different and making mistakes is to be human.
From Director Tim Johnson, who produced How to Train Your Dragon and directed Over the Hedge, comes this hilarious heartfelt adventure that will remind us what means to be a human. With cast members like Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon), Steve Martin (Father of the Bride’s George), and R&B sensation Rihanna, this film is set to wow us from start to finish!
So, let’s meet some of our newest Hollywood animated members!
Actor: 42-year-old Texan Jim Parsons
Note: Parsons was asked what he wanted us to take from the film: “The core of it seems to be how important friendship is, and that you just never know where it’s going to be or who it’s going to be with. If you’re open to it, some real magic can come into your life, in that way.
I spent a brief period of time, very early on, working in daycare, and we would play the same animated movies, again and again, but they always enjoyed them. I do think, with something like this, the hope would be that it’s simply entertaining, and whatever message there is hits at a more subliminal level. It should be fun enough to watch that you have time to absorb that message.
One of my favorite things about working on this is that I’ve been so excited, from the beginning, to work on something so original. It is from source material, but not one that many people know of. There’s nothing wrong with recreating things, or doing Pt. 2 or 3 of things, and God willing that we could, but for now, one of the things that’s so exciting is that it is new characters and a completely new story. To me, the animation looks brand new. When we saw some of the more finished scenes, it looked like they had invented something. I have never seen animation quite like this. I don’t know if that’s true, but I didn’t feel like I had.”
Gratuity “Tip” Tucci
Actor: Barbados’ 27-year-old Rihanna
Note: When asked why she wanted to be on the project, Rihana said, “I’d never done an animated film, but the story just spoke to me. It was so real and there were so many parallels in it. I felt like I identified with Tip. She’s essentially a role model.
For me, it was strange to read a character that you can look up to. I was very excited. I had never done an animated film. I did Battleship before, but this was different. You learn so much when the camera is not there.
Especially for me, being from Barbados, I have an accent. Learning to speak American, you just realize that there are 20 different types of American. There are all these different types of accents, and I didn’t know. I was learning all over again, and not just with the accent, but how to act with just my voice.”
Actor: Texas’ 69-year-old Steve Martin
Note: When asked what home was for him, Martin said, “Home to me is when someone comes up to me and says, ‘Can I get a selfie?’ No. It’s where your wife and your family are. It’s the emotional place where you feel like you’re not away from it.”
