Adaline Bowman is 29 years old. After an accident, she has remained the same 29 years old for the last eight decades. Exactly the same – same face, same skin, same hair, never aging a day. She has lived her life in solitude, protecting herself from getting close to anyone who could expose her secret.
But then she happens to meet Ellis Jones, a charming philanthropist. He reminds her of passion for life and love. After spending a weekend with his parents, her secret is threatened. And Adaline is faced with a choice that could alter her life forever.
Directed by Lee Toland Krieger, who brought us Celeste & Jesse Forever, comes a heart gripping love story that will last through the ages. Adaline is played by LA’s 27-year-old Blake Lively (Gossip Girl’s Serena). Michiel Huismman, the 43-year-old from Noord-Holland who has acted as Daario in Game of Thrones, plays Ellis. Also joining the cast is legendary Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones), Amanda Crew (Whistler’s Carrie), and Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream’s Sara).
Here are some interesting facts before you head to the show…
Huisman explained why he joined the project: “Coming off of a lot of TV shows, I was really hoping to make that jump to movies. I couldn’t believe that I would have the opportunity to make this much of a jump, to play the male lead opposite people like Blake and Harrison Ford and Ellen Burstyn in a proper Hollywood romantic drama. I love the story and the premise and how it played with that idea of immortality being actually a burden and not, you know — forever young is actually not something you want.”
The lead role moved around quite a bit. Natalie Portman turned it down. Katherine Heigl was set to be the lead but later dropped to be with her family. Dame Anagela Lansbury was thought to play Adaline. Finally, after much debate, the role went the Lively.
The project’s estimated budget is $25,000,000.
The MPAA rated this film PG-13 for suggestive commenting.
Huisman’s favorite scene: “If I have to pick one, then I’m going to pick the moment that has also been used in the trailer quite a lot — when she’s finally at my house and we’re about to kiss and then she holds back and she says, ‘Tell me something to hold on to forever and never let go.’ It’s one of the reasons why I love to act and being an actor, because maybe in real life, I would not know what to answer, and then my character just has such a great answer. So simple, and so true. It speaks to her life in general but also to the moment and it’s so unassuming. It’s great. He says, ‘Let go.’ That’s it.”
