“Lunchtime” comes on the heels of their 2020 debut album Sunlight, and recent single “Lots Of Nothing”, from which Spacey Jane has garnered tens of millions of streams, sold out three national tours, and hit #2 in triple j’s iconic Hottest 100 2020 poll. They’ve also got fans at NPR Music, SPIN, Rolling Stone (Australia), NME (Australia), & more.

The Perth-based four-piece take nods from the likes of Kings of Leon, The 1975, Real Estate; compacting deeply personal stories of failed relationships, mental health struggles and the escapism of your late-teens/early-twenties into jangly summer dreamscapes.

Of “Lunchtime,” (mixed by Grammy Award winning mix engineer/producer Rich Costey [Muse, Foo Fighters, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys]), Spacey Jane says, “Wrote this song while experiencing severe hangover anxiety and feeling extremely hopeless. It’s fun to juxtapose fast upbeat instrumentation with somber lyrics and themes. I’m trying to explain how I feel like I’m just going through the motions with love, career, friends and family. I felt like everything was just happening because it had to and not because I cared about it.”

This is what Spacey Jane does best: hitting you hard with contemplative, juicy lyrics, delivered by frontman Caleb Harper with unmistakable verve… and balancing it all out with a huge boost of dopamine in the instrumentation and arrangement. There’s a sense of humor and lightheartedness woven deep into that juxtaposition. Along with the summery jangle of guitars from Ashton Hardman-LeCornu, the peppy drums from Kieran Lama (who also manages the band), and Peppa Lane’s effortless bass and dreamy harmonies, there’s an innocence written and revoked in everything this band does.

Arguably one of Australia’s most meteoric breakout acts of 2020, their debut album Sunlight reached #2 on the ARIA album charts, #2 in the triple j Hottest 100, won the triple J Album of the Year Poll, among other accolades, and pre-pandemic landed them on festival stages like Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and more.
