John Barrett, the band’s lead singer and multi-instrumentalist, expressed his thrill over the album’s live energy, noting, “When we heard the test pressing, we were like ‘shit, we are playing these QUICK’. It’s fast, loose, but not too loose, and fun. Bass Drum of Death began as a solo project by John Barrett in Oxford, Mississippi, back in 2007. The project quickly evolved from releasing the “Stain Stick Skin EP” in 2008 to dropping their debut album, “GB City,” in 2011. This album featured the hit single “Young Pros” and marked the beginning of Barrett’s touring phase, where he played with various musicians. After moving labels and releasing more music, the band faced a brief hiatus in 2015 but made a strong return in 2018 with “Just Business.” By 2020, the lineup stabilized with Barrett’s brother, Jim, and drummer Ian Kirkpatrick, leading to fresh material and the 2023 album “Say I Won’t,” produced by Patrick Carney.
