The Miki Berenyi Trio, a dynamic ensemble featuring Miki Berenyi of Lush and Piroshka fame, has unveiled their first official single, “Vertigo.” Released through Bella Union, the track marks an exciting new chapter for Berenyi, who is joined by her Piroshka collaborators Kevin ‘Moose’ McKillop and Oliver Cherer. The trio is gearing up for an anticipated U.S. headline tour, promising to bring their unique sound to fans across the country with support from Lol Tolhurst x Budgie.

“Vertigo” is not just another addition to their repertoire but has been a significant part of the band’s live performances for over a year. It is one of the inaugural pieces the group crafted together, exploring themes of anxiety and the internal struggles that accompany it. Berenyi describes the song as a reflection on anxiety and the mental negotiations involved in staving off overwhelming feelings, fittingly capturing the emotional highs and lows through the melody and lyrics.

The single also experiments with the band’s sound, incorporating programmed beats in place of a traditional drummer, a testament to their innovative approach to music production. Despite this shift, Berenyi assures that the core essence of their music remains intact—focusing on guitars and melodies, elements that have always been central to her and Moose’s musical ventures.

Accompanying the release of “Vertigo” is a visually striking music video directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Faits-Divers. Filmed at the Consortium Museum in Dijon, specifically within an exhibition room dedicated to Isabella Ducrot, the video complements the song’s introspective theme with its artistic and thoughtful presentation.

As the Miki Berenyi Trio embarks on their U.S. tour, they are joined by Michael Conroy, another Piroshka and Modern English veteran, enhancing their live performances with his seasoned musicianship. This tour not only offers an opportunity to experience the new single live but also reintroduces Berenyi’s profound impact on the shoegaze and Britpop scenes to a new generation of listeners.

For fans of Miki Berenyi’s previous work and newcomers alike, the trio’s latest musical endeavors and upcoming tour are not to be missed, showcasing a blend of nostalgic influences and contemporary innovations in the world of alternative rock.
