Austin’s heavy psychedelic-Americana band, Lord Buffalo, has unleashed their mesmerizing new single, “Cracks in the Vermeer,” from the eagerly anticipated album Holus Bolus. This hauntingly beautiful track is now available on all digital streaming platforms, ready to captivate and transport listeners to another realm.

Lord Buffalo’s music is heavy in a unique way—much like the weight of ghosts or swirling dust. Their sound impacts deeply, flowing through listeners rather than triggering the typical responses of heavy rock music. The new album’s title, Holus Bolus, meaning “all at once,” is fitting. It draws listeners in from the first notes with a dark, compelling haze, showcasing the band’s skillful blend of droning violin, guitars, drums, and vocals. Influences from Morricone and Badalementi, as well as Sabbath and Swans, are evident.

The quartet—Daniel Pruitt (guitar, bass, piano, vocals, melodica), Garrett Hellman (guitar, sub-bass, piano, synths), Patrick Patterson (violin), and Yamal Said (drums, percussion)—explores new directions, intertwining Middle Eastern influences with a distinctly Western feel. This creative synergy places them alongside dark emotive artists like David Eugene Edwards/Woven Hand, Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle, Earth/Dylan Carlson, Echo & The Bunnymen, and Nick Cave.

Holus Bolus was recorded by Danny Reisch and Max Lorenzen at Good Danny’s in Lockhart, TX, mixed by Danny Reisch, and mastered by Max Lorenzen. Reflecting on the album, Pruitt says, “The making of this record feels like a sleep-deprived hallucination to me. Listening to it now, I find it strangely hopeful—there’s a kind of release that comes with exhaustion. It felt like the record just appeared one day, holus bolus.”

Holus Bolus will be available worldwide on vinyl, CD, and digital via Blues Funeral Recordings on July 12, 2024.
