Bonny Light Horseman, the talented trio of Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson, and Josh Kaufman (joined by drummer JT Bates and bassist Cameron Ralston), recently made their third appearance on CBS Saturday Morning: Saturday Sessions. They performed three captivating tracks from their new double album, Keep Me On Your Mind/See You Free, now available via Jagjaguwar.

The band played “I Know You Know” and “Old Dutch” on air, while “When I Was Younger” was featured as a web exclusive. Produced by Kaufman and mixed by D. James Goodwin, this third LP has received glowing reviews globally, with praise from Uncut (9/10 stars), MOJO, New York Mag/Vulture (“Best Songs of 2024 (So Far)”), Consequence, Pitchfork (10 New Albums…), NPR Music, Paste, No Depression, and Exclaim!. The singles performed on CBS were also lauded by Rolling Stone, Uproxx, Paste, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Relix, and Exclaim!.

The band’s North American headlining tour just concluded its East Coast segment, and they’ll continue next month with several festival performances before hitting the West Coast this fall. Highlights include a stop at Los Angeles’ The Ford on October 6th and a special performance with The National Symphony Orchestra at DC’s The Kennedy Center on October 22nd. They’re also set to play at the Winnipeg Folk Festival on July 13th, following appearances at Bonnaroo Music & Arts and Red Wing Roots. They have confirmed fall European headlining dates as well. Full tour details are listed below.

Keep Me on Your Mind/See You Free was written over five months in 2023. The band started recording in the century-old Irish pub Levis Corner House, recommended by Mitchell after a chat with the owner, Joe O’Leary. The pub’s rich history and sense of community resonated deeply with the band. Half of the album’s tracks were recorded in the main room of Levis’s, with locals joining in on the third day. The band later finished the album at their go-to spot, Dreamland Recording Studios in upstate New York, where they also recorded their first two albums. Frequent collaborator Mike Lewis added bass and tenor saxophone, and Annie Nero contributed upright bass and harmonies. The sessions were emotionally charged and cathartic, filled with tears and songs that flowed effortlessly.
