Get ready to feel the nostalgia—Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Casper, the beloved 1995 family blockbuster, with a nationwide theatrical re-release starting October 3 and haunting big screens through Halloween night, October 31, 2025.
Directed by Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, City of Angels), Casper tells the heartwarming tale of a lonely ghost searching for a friend. Starring Bill Pullman as Dr. James Harvey, a ghost therapist, and two-time Emmy nominee Christina Ricci as his daughter Kat, the film invites viewers back to the eerie yet endearing Whipstaff Manor. There, they encounter Casper—voiced by Malachi Pearson—and his wild, mischievous uncles: Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso, the latter voiced by three-time Emmy winner Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond).
Rounding out the film’s all-star comedic cast are Oscar nominee Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), Monty Python legend Eric Idle, and cult favorite Ben Stein. The film also features surprising cameos from icons like Rodney Dangerfield, Mel Gibson, Dan Aykroyd, and Clint Eastwood, plus unforgettable appearances from Saturday Night Live’s Father Guido Sarducci and Tales from the Crypt‘s Crypt Keeper.
The magic of Casper is further elevated by a sweeping score from James Horner, the two-time Academy Award-winning composer behind Titanic and Avatar. Produced by Colin Wilson (The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Meg), and written by Sherri Stoner and Deanna Oliver, the film was based on characters created by Joseph Oriolo, bringing the classic 1940s ghost to a new generation in the mid-90s.
Since his first comic book appearance in 1952, Casper the Friendly Ghost has been a cherished pop culture figure. Now, 30 years after he first floated onto movie screens, he’s back to charm old fans and new audiences alike.
Whether you’re revisiting a childhood favorite or introducing your kids to Casper for the first time, this limited re-release is the perfect way to celebrate Halloween.
Catch Casper in theaters nationwide from October 3 through October 31, 2025.
