Prewn—the project of Los Angeles-based musician Izzy Hagerup—has announced System, due out October 3, 2025, via Exploding In Sound. Alongside the news, Hagerup has shared the album’s gripping title track and a Sophie Feuer-directed video, offering a vivid first glimpse into what promises to be her most personal and haunting work yet.
Written, performed, and recorded entirely by Hagerup, System is described as a “private journal made public.” Across nine raw and unfiltered tracks, the album explores the murky terrain of depression, self-doubt, and emotional disassociation, all with moments of piercing humor and clarity. “When I wrote ‘System’ I was supposed to be present and alive and gracious and happy,” Hagerup shares. “But somehow I couldn’t escape my own internal fears and depression that can follow me wherever I go.”
The lead single captures that inner conflict with eerie strings, slow-building intensity, and Hagerup’s singular voice—once described by Pitchfork as “feisty and tremulous…dangerous like barbed wire, or miraculous like a bouquet of wildflowers.”
Following her 2023 debut Through The Window, System finds Hagerup going deeper into the late-night hours where inspiration and discomfort intertwine. Much of the album was created during solitary sessions that stretched until dawn. “This new album comes from a much more self-centered place,” she explains. “More numb, hollow, and confused. More entrenched in a frustrating and aimless discomfort.”
Despite its heavy themes, System doesn’t surrender to darkness. Instead, it stares into it and comes back with flickers of wonder. It’s a bold, intimate portrait of navigating emotional chaos—and dares you to look closer.
