The Antlers — the beloved project of singer-songwriter and producer Peter Silberman — have returned with Blight, their first album since 2021’s Green to Gold. Where that record basked in rustic calm, Blight peers into the haze of modern decay. Across nine luminous tracks, Silberman confronts our quiet complicity in environmental collapse — pollution, waste, and the subtle violences of convenience.
Yet Blight is anything but bleak. It shimmers with restless invention, unfolding like a dream of the near future. Sparse guitar figures and organ pulses bloom into sprawling electronica, with songs mutating midstream into unexpected forms. The title track, a meditation on consumption, likens humanity’s hunger to “ravenous moths,” fluttering toward self-destruction.
“‘Blight’ addresses consumption through two lenses,” Silberman explains. “One zooms in on my inner tension around convenience. The other zooms out — an infestation devouring everything in its path. Maybe these swarms are just doing the best they can, too.”
Recorded primarily in Silberman’s upstate New York home studio, Blight feels at once intimate and vast, as if discovered on an abandoned planet. Early singles “Carnage” and “Something in the Air” teased its volatile beauty — a mix of tenderness and terror that captures our uneasy present with uncanny grace.
The Antlers will celebrate Blight with an in-store performance and album signing at Everything Nice in Ellenville, NY, on October 18, and a special album release show set for Wednesday, October 22, at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge; limited tickets are still available. Next year will see the band embark on a series of EU/UK headline dates, beginning March 5, 2026, at Dolan’s in Limerick, Ireland, and then visiting Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels.
