The iconic collaboration between musician Tom Waits and photographer Anton Corbijn returns this fall with the re-issue of WAITS/CORBIJN ‘77–‘11. Originally published in 2013, this acclaimed collection will be available again—now in a smaller 8.1 x 11.4 inch format—on October 21 in Europe and December 9 in the U.S.
Spanning more than three decades, the book chronicles one of rock’s most enduring creative partnerships. Corbijn’s stark, cinematic photographs trace Waits’ evolution from gravel-voiced troubadour to theatrical visionary, while Waits’ own images—featured in a section titled Curiosities—offer a rare glimpse into his personal artistic lens.
Featuring over 200 portraits by Corbijn and 50 pages of Waits’ photography and musings, the 226-image collection captures their shared fascination with mood, mystery, and transformation. As Waits quips, “Anton picks up a small black box, points it at you and all the leaves fall from the trees.”
With introductions by filmmaker Jim Jarmusch and critic Robert Christgau, WAITS/CORBIJN ‘77–‘11 stands as both an archive and an intimate dialogue between two visionaries. Their collaboration—part mischief, part magic—remains a testament to the power of friendship and creative trust.
