Maps, the project of James Chapman, unveils his long-lost horror soundtrack Welcome To The Tudor Gate, out now via Mute.
Originally recorded in 2014 and recently rediscovered, the album was inspired by a “half-remembered film” Chapman once saw late at night—its eerie fragments haunting him until he decided to compose the missing soundtrack himself.
The 37-minute piece unfolds in continuous “chapters,” tracing a hero’s journey through shadowy forests where magic thrives and witchcraft is feared. Chapman describes it as “a mysterious, strange and uneasy soundtrack, with a nod to the fantastical.”
Drawing from Blood On Satan’s Claw, The Wicker Man, and horror masters like Dario Argento and John Carpenter, Welcome To The Tudor Gate channels the spirit of 1960s and ’70s occult cinema, with echoes of H.P. Lovecraft’s weird fiction.
Step through The Tudor Gate—but beware—you may never leave.
