Shrek returns to the big screen as Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation celebrate the 25th anniversary of the beloved hit. The nationwide theatrical re-release begins May 15, 2026, inviting audiences back to the magical world of Far, Far Away. Featuring iconic voice performances from Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow, the film remains a cornerstone of modern animation.

Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the story follows a grumpy ogre whose quiet life is disrupted by banished fairy tale characters. Alongside a talkative Donkey, Shrek embarks on a quest that blends humor, heart, and unexpected heroism.

Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in 2001, the film became both a critical and commercial success. It earned the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and reshaped animated storytelling with its sharp wit and pop culture edge. Its soundtrack also became a fan favorite, further cementing its legacy.

With sequels, spin-offs, and even a Broadway adaptation, Shrek’s impact continues to grow. Fans can now relive the magic in theaters, experiencing the film that redefined fairy tales for a new generation.
