A24 is preparing to bring audiences another intriguing character-driven story with The Invite, a comedy-drama directed by Olivia Wilde that arrives in theaters this summer. Based on the acclaimed Spanish film The People Upstairs, the remake transforms a seemingly ordinary dinner party into a revealing look at love, honesty, and the cracks that can form in a long-term relationship.

The film follows Joe and Angela, played by Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde, whose marriage is already under strain when they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors over for dinner. What begins as a casual evening quickly evolves into a tense and emotionally charged encounter that forces everyone at the table to confront uncomfortable truths.

Adding to the appeal is an impressive cast that includes Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, while the screenplay comes from Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. The project also marks another collaboration between Wilde and producer Megan Ellison following Booksmart.

After premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, The Invite earned strong early reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes showing a 91% critics’ score.

With its intimate setting, sharp dialogue, and emotionally messy premise, the film looks poised to become one of A24’s standout releases of summer 2026.
