Fans of action RPGs now have a chance to step into a cursed frontier as The Dark West launches its Steam demo today.
Fresh off appearances at several Summer Game Fest showcases, developer Black Hand is giving players an early taste of its occult western ARPG, where revolvers, black magic, tarot cards, and poker-inspired buildcraft collide in a grim world consumed by greed and corruption.
The demo introduces Kane, the Gunslinger, a fast-moving mid-range fighter who thrives on precision shooting, rapid-fire bursts, and supernatural abilities. Players can chain bullets between enemies, unleash entire revolver cylinders in seconds, teleport through shadows, and summon spectral echoes that repeat every shot fired.
More than just a western-themed action RPG, The Dark West leans heavily into its setting. Character progression is shaped through a mix of gear, talents, and card-based systems that tie together gambling, gunplay, and dark magic.
Set in a dying frontier where faith and damnation battle for control, players will explore a world warped by black magic, face brutal combat encounters, and choose how far they’re willing to descend in pursuit of power.
