Apple Original Films has unveiled the first trailer for Mayday, an action-packed buddy comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, with the film set to premiere globally on Apple TV on September 4, 2026.
The genre-bending adventure puts a fresh spin on the classic spy thriller. Reynolds stars as Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, a fearless U.S. Navy pilot whose top-secret Cold War mission into Russian territory goes spectacularly wrong, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines.
Just when all hope seems lost, Troy crosses paths with Nikolai Ustinov (Kenneth Branagh), a gruff former KGB agent with an unexpected fascination for American culture. What begins as a tense encounter soon evolves into an unlikely partnership, promising plenty of explosive action, sharp comedy, and surprising heart.
Mayday comes from Apple Original Films and Skydance Media, with filmmaking duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein serving as co-directors, writers, and producers. The production also brings together Skydance and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, adding plenty of star power behind the scenes as well as on screen.
With its blend of high-stakes espionage, buddy-comedy chemistry, and Cold War intrigue, Mayday looks set to be one of Apple TV’s biggest original film releases of the year.
