Ever wondered how Disney’s biggest stories become the immersive worlds fans can’t wait to explore? Disney Worldbuilders is set to answer that question when it premieres on Disney+ on August 20.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, the feature-length documentary takes viewers behind the scenes with some of Disney’s biggest creative names, including Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush and Josh D’Amaro.

The film explores the creative spark behind beloved franchises like Avatar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Frozen and Zootopia, revealing how blockbuster stories evolve into unforgettable attractions at Disney parks around the world. Along the way, fans will also get a sneak peek at exciting new lands currently in development.

Iwerks says many of the storytellers shared a common inspiration: childhood visits to Disneyland that showed them impossible dreams really could come true. It’s a theme that runs throughout the documentary, celebrating imagination, creativity and the magic of storytelling.

Before streaming worldwide, Disney Worldbuilders will make its world premiere at D23 on August 16, giving Disney’s biggest fans an early look at what’s shaping the future of the parks and the stories we love.

If you’re fascinated by what happens behind the curtain—or simply can’t get enough Disney magic—this is one documentary you’ll want to add to your watchlist.
