What does it mean to win when life changes the rules?
A Marble in the Jar, a new documentary from filmmakers Greg Browning and Scott Smith, follows professional surfer Tatiana Weston-Webb and Browning, her coach, mentor and close friend, as they navigate two very different battles.
Tatiana is chasing a World Title. Greg is facing an ALS diagnosis.
Along the way, the pair share a simple tradition: whenever something good happens—a great wave, a breakthrough, a moment worth remembering—they drop a marble into a jar. But as Tatiana copes with falling short of her ultimate goal and Greg’s condition progresses, those marbles take on a far greater meaning.
What begins as a story about surfing becomes something much bigger: a deeply personal look at friendship, resilience, loss and perspective—and a reminder that winning isn’t always about a trophy.
Directed by Browning, a member of the legendary Momentum Generation and creator of the Drive Thru series, the film features appearances from surfing icons including Kelly Slater, Carissa Moore, Ross Williams, Bruce Irons, Filipe Toledo, Rochelle Ballard and more.
Most poignantly, Greg completed the documentary as what became his final gift to Tatiana.
A Marble in the Jar opens exclusively in theaters September 11, 2026, before arriving On Demand November 3, 2026.
