RuneScape is getting a fresh start—and this time, everyone gets to start from zero.
Jagex has announced RuneScape Reignited, a new permanent way to play modern RuneScape designed to give new and returning players a cleaner, more guided experience.
Launching December 2, 2026, Reignited lets players create a brand-new character starting at level 3, with a separate economy, hiscores and progression system.
And before you ask: this isn’t RuneScape 4.
It’s also not a temporary server or a reset of existing accounts. Your current RuneScape character stays exactly where it is. Reignited simply gives players another way to experience Gielinor.
A New RuneScape Economy
The biggest change may be the economy.
Reignited starts with a completely fresh player economy, meaning early resources, gear and crafting materials won’t be competing with 25 years of accumulated wealth and supplies.
That could make everything from chopping logs and mining ore to crafting, trading and early bossing feel meaningful again.
There will also be separate Reignited hiscores, giving players a brand-new race to the top.
Built for New and Returning Players
Jagex is also reworking the early RuneScape experience.
Reignited features a Remastered Journey with updated early-game content, improved guidance and an Adventure Guide designed to help players figure out what to do next.
That’s potentially a big deal for anyone who has looked at modern RuneScape and thought, “Where am I even supposed to start?”
No Treasure Hunter or Paid Progression
Jagex says Reignited will not include paid progression, including Treasure Hunter.
The idea is simple: your progress comes from playing the game.
Existing Veteran characters and new Reignited characters can still share parts of the broader RuneScape world, but players won’t be able to transfer characters, gold or items between the two systems. That keeps the new economy clean.
Free Members Access at Launch
There’s another reason to jump in early.
Reignited characters will receive access to member content for the first 10 days after launch, from December 2 through December 12, 2026. After that, normal RuneScape membership rules apply.
More Than a Fresh Start
Jagex is already planning additional Reignited content for 2027, including new story arcs, an Agility rework, skilling and solo bosses, area expansions, a new raid and a Grandmaster Quest.
That makes Reignited more than a nostalgia trip.
It’s an attempt to give RuneScape something it hasn’t had in a long time: a truly shared beginning.
For veteran players, it’s a chance to experience the excitement of building a character from scratch. For newcomers, it could be a much easier way into one of gaming’s biggest and longest-running MMOs.
