Jason Voorhees may be a horror icon, but his story began with his mother. Crystal Lake, the new prequel from Peacock and A24, takes fans back to the origins of the Friday the 13th franchise, with Linda Cardellini starring as Pamela Voorhees.

Set in the 1970s, the series takes place nearly a year after young Jason drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. While the surrounding community tries to move on, Pamela remains consumed by grief. When two strangers arrive asking questions about her past, a disturbing chain of events begins, and the town discovers there may be more to Pamela than anyone realized.

Unlike previous installments focused on Jason, Crystal Lake puts his mother at the center of the story. Cardellini explores the emotional turmoil behind one of horror’s most infamous characters, while Callum Vinson plays young Jason. The cast also includes William Catlett as Sheriff Levon Brooks, a friend of Pamela’s.

Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator and showrunner, bringing a fresh perspective to the franchise’s familiar mythology. Expect a mix of slasher horror, small-town mystery, and family tragedy, with plenty of connections to the original film.

For longtime fans, revisiting the original Friday the 13th is a good way to prepare. Peacock added the first three films to its library on October 1, giving viewers a chance to revisit the franchise before the prequel arrives.

Crystal Lake premieres Thursday, October 15, 2026, exclusively on Peacock. All eight episodes will be available at once, making it the perfect setup for a horror-filled binge.

This time, the story isn’t just about the killer in the mask. It’s about the mother whose tragedy helped create the nightmare.
