Some things are terrifying enough to see. Others are even worse when nobody else can.
Cleopatra Venom brings Japanese supernatural horror to North American DVD for the first time with The Invisible Half, arriving November 10 alongside a digital release on select platforms.
The story follows Elena Takahashi (Lisa Siera), a half-Japanese, half-British student struggling to fit in at her new school in Japan. Targeted by bullies and ostracized by her classmates, Elena already has plenty to deal with. Then things take a seriously disturbing turn: a malevolent spirit begins stalking her, visible only through her smartphone camera and audible only through her earphones.
Imagine trying to convince someone you’re being haunted when the ghost disappears every time you put your phone down.
Writer and director Masaki Nishiyama blends the unsettling atmosphere of classic J-horror with a hard-hitting look at bullying, prejudice and isolation. The result is a supernatural high school nightmare that explores real-world fears alongside its ghostly scares.
The DVD includes both English-dubbed and original Japanese-language versions, making it an intriguing addition for fans of The Ring (Ringu), Dark Water and other Japanese horror favorites.
Mark your calendar for November 10. If you like your horror creepy, atmospheric and just a little too close to reality, The Invisible Half deserves a spot on your watchlist.
