In the wake of her impactful lead single “Holding On,” Jayli Wolf, the JUNO-nominated Indigenous (Anishinaabe/Cree), Queer activist, actress, poet, alt-pop singer-songwriter-producer, and filmmaker, is back with a transformative musical creation titled “Blood Orange.” This powerful anthem serves as the second track released from her highly anticipated sophomore EP, “God Is An Endless Mirror.” “Blood Orange” resonates deeply with those who have faced abuse and oppression, encapsulating the indomitable resilience of the human spirit.
Through evocative lyrics and captivating melodies, “Blood Orange” invites listeners on a journey of empowerment, urging them to discover their inner strength and stand up against their oppressors. It serves as a rallying cry for survivors, offering solace and inspiring them to embrace their truth and reclaim their power. Jayli shares her intention behind the song, stating, “I wanted this song to boldly confront the themes of control, oppression, and societal standards, while also illuminating the courage to break free and reclaim one’s narrative. ‘Blood Orange’ is a poignant testament to the indomitable spirit of those who have faced adversity, encouraging resilience, healing, and the liberation that comes from telling one’s story.”
Fans eagerly anticipate Jayli’s second EP, “God Is An Endless Mirror,” which expands on the themes explored in “Holding On” and “Blood Orange.” The EP delves into spirituality, self-love, awakening, and healing. Scheduled for release on September 22 under Jayli’s own label, ALT EDEN, the album presents a sonic experiment blending collected sounds from Turtle Island with a fusion of folk and electronic alternative styles. Jayli skillfully weaves her own poetry with organic instruments and elements, creating a unique and captivating musical experience.
Reflecting on the creative process behind the EP, Jayli explains, “While I was writing this EP, I just kept feeling like there was more I needed to be tapping into. Every song was about losing my mind, barely holding on, and feeling lost. As I reflected on that, I realized that I needed a massive change in my life. I stepped back from acting and bought my childhood farm. Then the music began to shift too – into more resolve, more faith and power. And so there is both music from during the shift and after in this EP. And I am excited for what is to come now.”
Jayli Wolf’s debut EP, “Wild Whisper,” shed light on the hardships her family endured due to the colonial genocide inflicted by the Canadian Government. It also explored her journey of leaving the religion she was born into and releasing the shame and guilt surrounding her bisexuality. The EP garnered critical acclaim, including a 2022 JUNO Award nomination, a spot on Apple’s 100 Best Songs of 2021, a Top 10 placement in CBC Music’s Canadian Songs 2021 lists, a #1 on CBC Radio One, over 1+ million views on YouTube for the self-directed music video “Child of The Government,” and coverage in renowned publications like VOGUE (Global), NYLON, Rolling Stone, CBC, and them., among others.
Jayli’s work reached a global audience when several of her TikTok videos went viral, striking a chord with viewers who shared similar experiences within their Indigenous families affected by the Sixties Scoop. Renowned music publication Rolling Stone has aptly described Jayli Wolf’s music as a crossover between Phantogram, Crystal Castles, and Chvrches. Her critically acclaimed prowess serves as living proof that one can find their truth despite a tumultuous past.
As we eagerly await the release of “God Is An Endless Mirror,” Jayli Wolf continues to use her music as a platform for empowerment, shedding light on important social issues and inspiring others to embrace their authentic selves. With her powerful and soul-stirring creations, Jayli’s artistic journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of storytelling.
