Renowned Japanese musician Keigo Oyamada, also known as Cornelius, is excited to announce the release of his new three-song EP, ‘Bad Advice/Mind Train,’ coming out on August 21st via Like LTD. The first single drops just in time for the 30th anniversary of Oyamada’s career under the Cornelius moniker, inspired by the classic film “Planet of the Apes.” This release follows his 2023 album ‘Dream In a Dream’ and the stunning ambient collection ‘Ethereal Essence,’ which Brooklyn Vegan praised, saying, “[his] creativity shines through, while [maintaining] his unique essence.”
Reflecting on his 30-year milestone, Oyamada shares, “I never thought I would be able to continue making music for so long,” showing his genuine appreciation for this achievement.
The EP’s first single, “MIND TRAIN,” is a nine-minute journey of ethereal spacepop. With sleek minimalist structures and moments of exhilarating chaos, it draws inspiration from Yoko Ono and aims to inspire self-reflection.
“MIND TRAIN symbolizes a spiritual journey or inner exploration,” Oyamada explains. “It is intended to provide an experience for the listener to explore the inner self.”
The accompanying video, crafted by acclaimed visual artist Keita Onishi, offers a retro-futuristic experience, inviting viewers to create their own interpretations.
“Keita’s works evoke images and sensations rather than convey a specific story,” Oyamada enthuses, “expressing the structure and texture of the music.”
The EP also includes a remix of the ‘Dream In a Dream’ track “Sparks” by Canadian multi-instrumentalist Joseph Shabason and the new song “BAD ADVICE,” featuring vocals from New York No Wave legend Arto Lindsay. This track pays homage to Lindsay’s 80s experimental duo, Ambitious Lovers.
