Anamanaguchi are back with “Sucker Punch,” a new single that blends dreamy shoegaze guitars, digital chaos, and explosive, arena-sized sound. Co-produced by Grammy-winning producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT), the track takes the band’s signature digital maximalism into stranger, more unpredictable territory.
Featuring vocals from all four members, “Sucker Punch” pairs absurdist lyrics with shifting song structures and layers of guitars and electronic samples. The result feels less like a conventional pop song and more like the soundtrack to a surreal film. A new glitch-heavy music video, filmed on tour and directed by Verebonum, arrives alongside the single.
According to guitarist Ary Warnaar, the song began as a rough four-track recording before the band revisited it after working with Fridmann on their 2025 album Anyway. The collaboration gave them the opportunity to finally bring the track’s unusual structure to life.
“Sucker Punch” follows the band’s recent single “Yeah I Guess,” marking another chapter in Anamanaguchi’s evolving sound. The band also released an expansive chiptune score for Scott Pilgrim EX earlier this year, continuing a prolific run that stretches beyond their latest album.
Anamanaguchi are currently touring with Madeon’s Victory Live Tour, with upcoming stops at Brooklyn’s Great Hall at Pacha NYC on November 14 and Chicago’s Radius on November 21.
