Apple TV+ has just dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated second season of “Pachinko,” the award-winning and internationally celebrated drama series from creator and executive producer Soo Hugh. This compelling show, produced by Media Res, is uniquely told in three languages—Korean, Japanese, and English. The eight-episode second season will premiere globally on Friday, August 23, with new episodes releasing every Friday through October 11.
The new trailer features a fresh, emotionally charged cover of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” performed by Rosé from the record-breaking K-pop group BLACKPINK. Not only does Rosé’s rendition serve as the trailer’s anthem, but it will also be featured in the season two finale.
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel, “Pachinko” is a poignant and expansive tale of love and survival spanning four generations, centered on the remarkable matriarch, Sunja. The second season continues the parallel narratives, picking up in 1945 Osaka where Sunja faces perilous choices for her family’s survival during World War II, and in 1989 Tokyo, where Solomon embarks on new and humble beginnings.
The first season of “Pachinko” garnered 11 international awards, including a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute Award, a Critics Choice Award, and a Gotham Independent Film Award. Season two features an impressive cast including Lee Minho, Yuh-Jung Youn, Minha Kim, Jin Ha, Anna Sawai, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han, and Sungkyu Kim.
Mark your calendars for August 23 and get ready to be swept away by the powerful storytelling and stunning performances of “Pachinko” season two.
