Arctic Lake’s Emma Foster and Paul Holliman return with their latest offering, “Silver Pendant,” an enchanting tribute to romance. Similar to their previous single, “My Weakness,” this track serves as the perfect backdrop for contemplation about that special someone who can make your knees tremble. “‘Silver Pendant’ is a song inspired by infatuation. We began writing it alongside our friend Will Leong, and the line ‘you hang me around your neck like a silver pendant’ popped into my head, leading me to write the first verse,” explains Emma Foster. “In a strange twist of fate, our other co-writer Leah arrived, completely unaware of what we had written, and started telling us about her own whirlwind romance and the silver pendant her new love had given her just a few days prior. It was mind-blowing, and we knew then that the universe was aligning with us. The song carries a subtle darkness, hinting at power dynamics and the common issue of insecurity within relationships. It touches on the idea of being paraded for show, feelings of jealousy, and the compulsion to analyze every message received. While it’s an enjoyable song, we couldn’t resist adding a touch of shadow, which has become our signature.”
“Silver Pendant” and “My Weakness” are both featured on Arctic Lake’s upcoming EP, titled “How Do You Make It Look So Easy.” The Honey Pop praised “My Weakness,” stating, “You’ll be absolutely entranced by this dreamy pop song.” Meanwhile, Popdust commented, “It’s quintessentially Arctic Lake—an emotionally honest single that explores how love can simultaneously be one’s greatest strength and weakness.”
Although Emma, a rebellious individual hailing from Lincolnshire, was raised by her music-obsessed father on a diverse range of artists such as Depeche Mode, Ella Fitzgerald, and Queen, and Paul, a “middle-class and sheltered” metal fan from the London suburbs, initially had trepidation, including fear of Emma, their collaboration has unearthed a sweet spot. Together, they create evocative, intimate, and captivating alternative pop that delves into the vast spectrum of human emotions, leaving a lasting imprint.
