Austin’s own Gus Baldwin has just released his latest solo single, “Cherrywood,” a gritty, heartfelt power-pop gem that previews his forthcoming self-titled debut solo album. Known for his genre-hopping sound and kinetic live shows, Baldwin’s latest effort marks a deeply personal turn — a reflection of his early 20s and the chaotic clarity that came with them.

Best known as the frontman of Gus Baldwin & The Sketch, Baldwin isn’t slowing down. After earning praise with The Sketch earlier this year — including a KUTX Artist of the Month nod and Austin Chronicle cover feature — he’s heading out on the road. The band kicks off a headlining August tour across the Southeast (with stops at Muddy Rootsand Evolution Festival) before joining Bass Drum of Death for a string of West Coast dates in fall.

A staple of Austin’s underground, Baldwin has evolved from his early days in Dallas surf-punk band Sealion and psych-pop collective Acid Carousel, to a DIY legend with his label GetWithIt! Records. Now, whether he’s playing with The Sketch or solo, Baldwin’s sound channels the best of Bad Nerves, Osees, Spiritual Cramp, and The Hives — a hyper-charged blend of psych, punk, and pure rock energy.

More than just a single, “Cherrywood” is a glimpse into the world Gus Baldwin built — loud, raw, and defiantly honest. His full solo album is due later this year.

Gus Baldwin will be available on LP and download on October 24th, 2025 via Permanent Teeth. Pre-orders are available via BandCamp
